Assignment 5

For this assignment, we are supposed to create an infogrphic for the theme of climate change. Our target audience are readers from magazines such as National Geographic, Newsweek, Asia Week, Time etc.

Every assignment has it's difficult parts, and once again I didn't have time to do the infographic so it's a really basic idea.

Some comments were that i could incorporate this into an office setting and include other articles instead of just one so it has more elements and it won't look so plain. For now it's just way too simple.

The article is about turning office paper into toilet paper, using this device.

This is a form of recycling (in the office), specifically paper and it is linked with deforestation.

***

So I had more time to develop this idea. And I chose to stick with the theme of recycling and focused it in the office.

My title is saving in the office and I added another article which talks about a few things, but I focused on bringing your own utensils.

Assignment 4

For this assignment, we had to incorporate the theme of travel for a postcard. It was especially difficult to finish because of mid sem tests and I had a performance for NUS Arts Fest, so I didn't do a good job on this.

I will definitely redo it. Probably change the whole idea.

Anyway this idea was showing all the capitals/main cities of different countries, and their distances from Singapore.

(and now I realise it's probably more of an infographic than a postcard)

Colour scheme:

The other point was that, i don't have enough elements to use for colour scheme. because the globe for example is the same throughout. and the only colours that I'm changing are the background and the text.

***

So I totally revamped this assignment and thought of focusing on one country instead. I chose Russia because it has one of the best ballet company's in the world, The Bolshoi Ballet. And I love ballet so I definitely want to go there one day, even though it is freezing cold. And I also love their candy looking buildings at the Red Square, which is why I illustrated them in this postcard.

The illustration was really tedious to do, ESPECIALLY for colour exploration. I started off with a darker background of ballet dancers but it clashed too much, so i lowered the opacity for the others.

So this is it:

This is the chosen one:

I picked red because it is one of the colours of the flag, and also because the building is in Red Square. It really looks like candy from afar!

Assignment 3

For this assignment, we're supposed to create a sequence of images using photographs that tells a linear photo narrative.

I used a 7d canon that's why the quality's pretty good.

But anyway some comments from the class... Some frames are not needed, cos it just repeats the idea of her writing the letter.

The story may be too simple. (but my idea was simplicity and focus on the emotion.. maybe it's not strongly portrayed)

And one issue that i thought of was the words. But the actual words aren't that important so we agreed that it wasn't a factor.

Nevertheless, i will rethink this idea and maybe work out something else..

***

I also totally changed this idea. The first one was too straightforward I guess, although I really like the feel and the simplicity of it.

For the next one, I decided to focus on a macbook because macs are awesome, and I also added a twist to it so it's not as straightforward as the first one. The story is totally different btw.

Final layout:
So this is about a guy who comes home with his new macbook and is psyched to use his new gadget. He plugs everything in and everything looks normal, as if he's working on a normal screen that looks as big as the desktop he has in the room, but in the end you realise it's a really tiny macbook! This is called macpaper air and it is about 6 inches wide or smaller. You can see the comparison to the desktop in the last photo :)
